On Wednesday, September 28, Spring Arbor University (SAU) will begin a community-wide volunteer initiative as part of its Sesquicentennial celebration. The initiative aims to encourage students, alums, family, and friends to participate in the greater SAU community by serving others throughout their local communities and organizations. SAU is aiming to accumulate over 150,000 volunteer hours throughout the duration of its Sesquicentennial year.
Courtlyn Helder ’23, Coordinator of Outreach Ministry, said, “As children of the living Christ and as critical participants in the contemporary world, our job is to steward our gifts and care for God’s people and all of creation out of gratitude for what Jesus did for us.”
Wednesday morning will kick off the 150,000 hours of service with multiple opportunities to volunteer at 30 different locations that SAU has partnered with throughout the local area. Participants will meet in the Dunckel Gymnasium of the McDonald Athletic Center on SAU’s main campus for instructions and a blessing before being sent out into the community. After finishing their service projects in the morning, participants will return to campus and celebrate with lunch in the Dining Commons.
